Calais: I Know Where I Came From, But I Don't Know Where I'm Going
'Immigration is a big word. It implies journeys, boundaries, distance, breadth. It inspires fear in some, hope in others. But like the hyphen between the two halves of my fathers identity, it doesn't really mean anything by itself.'
From Albert Finney's Smile by Nimer Rashed
'I Know Where I Came From, But I Don't Know Where I'm Going' tells the stories of some of the migrants living in Calais, France hoping to gain illegal entrance to the UK. Often from areas of war, poverty or disease these mostly men travel long distances over years in an attempt for a better life. They live on a day to day basis being chased by police hiding in squats and planning how to make the final stage of their journey.
